Fails for GIFs

on my site, I enabled LQIP modern and it worked except for a GIF on this page.
The preview:
Became this after Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () at image:1.
I have since disabled LQIP on my site. Let me know what additional info would be helpful to debug. This happened both locally in dev and live on prod.
