Just to say that your work is very much appreciated. I haven't yet been able to use @MaddTheSane 's version 😿
So I went with http://hiltmon.com/blog/2015/06/27/a-simple-markdown-spotlight-importer/ — which is quite painful to do on El Capitan
I second this to be incorporated into this software, especially because this is what's in the Homebrew cask.
