Unable to change font in yaft

Is it possible to use a different font with yaft?
It seems like this should be possible due to font_path in Canvas.cpp.
I tried creating a symlink to a different font but that did not seem to have any affect on yaft, though it did on other applications (such as vnsee).
As per the yaft homepage: "You can use tools/mkfont_bdf to create glyph.h".
Thus to use a different font you must recompile with the bdf font of your choice.
Changing fonts by the method I mentioned above does change the font of the keyboard but not of the main application.
