Integration Qucs-RFLayout and Qucs-S

ra3xdh opened this issue · comments

I am planning to implement integration of Qucs-RF Layout and Qucs-S. See ra3xdh/qucs_s#465 I see the latest commit on Qucs-RFLayout was two years ago. Is this project maintained? Are you planning the further development of Qucs-RFLayout? I am also considering to make Qucs-RFLayout a part of Qucs-S package. The integration depends on if this project maintained.

Hello Vadim, didn't saw your message

I am glad to see that you are keeping the RF side of Qucs alive.

Yes it is in standby state. The reason is it was at first functional enough to focus on another thing : writing a mesher for OpenEMS (which is near to be alpha version). Then I simply didn't have enough time to work on any of those. So I basically left it as is, as long as nobody contact me for something.

But it becomes critical as Qt5 is absent from current Linux distros and official Qucs looks stale too. So I also planned to make it use Qucs-s by default at some point, and I definitely want to keep it usable while it is relevant. I still have long term plans like adding coplanar waveguide or other EDA support but again I won't urge as I think the OpenEMS mesher would be of greater benefit right now.

Regarding integration, I initially intended it to be part of the tools menu, I assume it would be rather easy to do. Also to ease further synchronization, I would prefer if we use a real dependency link between both projects, rather than just copy-pasting sources in tree, like it is the case for the other Qucs tools.

Thanks for the answer! I see the forking of the qucs-rflayout is not needed. I will add an integration in one next releases of Qucs-S. You and your team are welcome to contribute. This issue may be closed.
