Twitter username changes cause lists to be removed from account

When changing account username (as I did from @jammehcow_dev to @jammehcow) all lists associated with the account are removed. If the name is changed back to the previous username the lists are now visible.
WIthout looking at the code I'm assuming the username is what associates who owns the list. Would be ideal if you could use a Twitter ID or something.
