Large numbers of stale branches can clutter a project and make it harder for outside contributors to understand the code base.
I'd suggest deleting stale branches that are no longer needed.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I have deleted a few stale branches. The number that exist is a reminder that we need to do some work here towards a new (0.9) release. Some of that is about refactoring and renaming some core classes to make a more stable public API. I'll try to sit down with collaborators and get some code reviews done to merge some pending branches and PRs.
