Inviting fusion identities to private groups

cblgh opened this issue · comments

in the specification it says the following is true:

  • fusion identities is intended to be used for private messages (being able to pm the fusid and all related accounts will receive it)
  • not intended / out of scope: Inviting fusion identities to private groups

as i see it is this is more of an issue today than when originally forming the spec. the reason is that that private groups are now being worked on, with initial implementations of it targeting deployment in manyverse under the guise of private messages i.e. replacing private message functionality with private groups chats (tho iirc there will be some layer to decide if to PM or to PG?)

anyway: the first bullet above feels like one of the most important drivers of fusion identites, and very soon it will effectively not be true anymore. have the ngi assure batts working group planned a revision of this specification? cc @arj03

Hi @cblgh

Yes this spec should be revised once private groups are settled. I think it's better to say that invitations to private groups was out of scope for the first version. This was mainly a question of complexity. Keeping the original spec as simple as possible. That being said, with private groups landing in manyverse in a foreseeable future the pressure to pin this down becomes more important. I think this will be worked out at the same time as the UI will be done. We are still nailing down the last details of private groups 2.0. There is nothing technical in the way of supporting private groups invites, it's mainly a question of going though the different scenarios and figuring out what to do. Like what does it mean to have a 🪦 fusion in a group?
