SMS Voter Follow Up App

Using Twilio or another SMS API, develop an app that allows the League of Women Voters to collect information about the voters they are registering. The Houston League registers well over 20,000 voters every year - mostly at naturalization ceremonies.

Due to Texas law, the information captured during voter registration is confidential and cannot be shared with partners, even the one doing the voter registration.

This information is critical to get out the vote. Currently, the League has no way of reminding the people that they register of an upcoming election.

During voter registration, LWV would like to set up a placard saying, "text (number) with your email to receive more info from the League"

The goal of this project is to work alongside the League, design the right workflow, and launch the app.

This is still a valid idea. Here are some workstreams:

  • Partnership management. Manage relationships with LWV Houston and create partnerships with Twilio.
  • Marketing. Work with LWV Houston to develop marketing materials (e.g. placards).
  • Dev & UX. Develop the Twilio interaction. Design the info collection process.

I can provide some dev cycles if there's still interest in this. May be get a basic POC together for the Twilio interaction as a first step? Are they open to keeping the code base open source?
