Hi!

A few days ago, I installed the programme to have a look at it, but I couldn't see anything as I don't have a scanner. Nothing to be surprised about, of course, but I was wondering if Scanner could implement a way to load previously scanned documents in order to edit them (and maybe perform OCR through Tesseract). I know the programme has clear and disctinctive name, but any steps towards an alternative to ABBYY FineReader would be awesome.

Thanks!

Hey, thank you for your feedback!

I originally planned something similar for editing previous scans, but realized that especially the PDF integration that shipped later would make this quite difficult. Users seem to value rotating and renaming scans the most and these are things that can usually be achieved with existing free editing tools (e.g. Microsoft Photos and Xodo PDF), which also offer a far more advanced feature set. This is the main reason why I've decided against implementing something like this.

OCR has been mentioned before and I've looked into this for some time (it's now being used for the automatic rotation feature introduced in v3.0). Unfortunately, getting this to a point where it's both very easy to use and can also somehow compete with existing solutions would require much much more time and effort than I'm willing to invest given the perceived interest and the overall vision for this app.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I hope you see where I'm coming from with these points :/

Thank you for your reply! I understand you want to focus on the scanning feature. I had to try ;-)
