Monocle tabs uneven spacing

The monocle patch (diff from this topic) seems to create uneven spacing between the tabs and the tab-bar, as shown below (bottom and side gaps are bigger than the top gap). Is anyone familiar enough with the patch to fix it?

Upon closer inspection, the top gap is 5 pixels and the bottom is 6. So this is already the best spacing that can be achieved.
