Manage preposition

Hi,

I wanted to know if there is a way to handle preposition ?

For exemple in French when we want to say "I want to go to the bathroom" we say "Je veux aller à la salle de bain" but if we want to say "I want to go to the living room" we say "Je veux aller au salon"

I want to know if there is way to manage the difference between "à la" and "au" ?
