you mentioned wanting some font that was closer to that used in EGA, and I think https://tug.org/FontCatalogue/baskervaldx/ seems to be pretty close? it also has instructions for changing the italic roman letters in maths mode to match
for comparison:
(just noticed the typo Lett and will fix it!)
maybe not the best example to pick, because it's mostly italic, and so looks a bit off to me... but I quite like the switch to Baskervaldx in general!
hmmm, me too! but you're right that it seems a bit off. charter just feels a little cleaner IMO
i love charter, and it’s always my go-to, so i’m happy to stick with it! just raised the option after your comment on twitter :)
it's tough (I was tempted to recreate the font from scratch, but stopped a second later when I realized how hard that would be....!)
that would be some serious dedication! maybe let's just switch to Baskervaldx for a while, and if we don't like it, then just switch back later?

although there is this weird thing that capital math mode letters aren't italic, so they have weird spacing in italicised sections
Edit: seems like this is by choice, in the options for mathdesign.
I do like the font! I like the upright capitals, as it mirrors the French math style
ok, i changed them back to italic, but feel free to make them upright again!
