On definition 1.2.1 of the second volume it reads
the induced prescheme on
$X$ by the open set$f^{− 1}( S_α )$
on the french version this is
le préschéma induit par
$X$ sur l'ensemble ouvert$f^{− 1}( S_α )$
I believe this says that the prescheme is induced by
