"exclude" parameters are currently translated to additional arguments in the "rsync_long_args", which means they are subject to word splitting by split_long_args_with_quotes. I can't think of any case in which the splitting would be useful, and it causes needless pain when specifying an exclude pattern containing a space. The excludes should be contributed directly as an array of arguments without going through split_long_args_with_quotes.
