Software on-screen keyboard shows up when bluetooth mouse is connected to iPad Mini 6 and can not be hidden

Title.
There is no "hide keyboard" button at the bottom right of the keyboard either.
Problem disappears when mouse is disconnected.
Hardware model is Apple iPad Mini 6 on iOS 17.4.1.
