PL callback slows down training

Bug report from pchalasani on Discord: "for some reason adding the PL-callback to my RNN model slowed the training down quite a lot, plus there was some unexpected output about GPUs etc (running on my 2020 Macbook). Sorry I don't have much time to give a lot of details, but just wanted to give a heads up about it, and wondered if there's an obvious tip I may have missed."
