Does p2rank require git ?

Running p2rank I see following exception inside the log:
[WARN] Routine - failed to get git commit version
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "git": error=2, No such file or directory
Is it necessary to have git installed to get rid of this warning ?
No P2Rank does not require git to run. WARN message is suppressed in version Implemented in 2.2.
