on my pi4 b, I tried to get openmedia for a nas but the drives don't show up
That sounds like a software issue you should report with openmediavault.
We do provide a tutorial for running a Raspberry Pi NAS with built-in linux utilities: https://www.raspberrypi.com/tutorials/nas-box-raspberry-pi-tutorial/. Try our forums for support if that tutorial doesn't work. But we currently do not document openmediavault NAS setups on Raspberry Pis because we don't control the software, and our documentation cannot document integration with all Linux software. We just wouldn't have the time!
