Discard Tab Group ignores keep "this tab option" and "do not discard pinned tab"

When using the Discard Tab Group option for multiple tabs it also discards the current tab I am using too.
I have tried to work around this by checking the "Keep This Tab for This Session" box, Discard Tab Group overrides this option.
I have also tried to checking the "Do not discard a tab when it is pinned" in the Discarding conditions section of the options page. This is still overridden even when the tab is pinned and in focus.
Are there things that I might have missed or have I done something wrong in my setup?
