With the latest release being ~2 years ago now, is it still in active development?
It's mature - it does what it's supposed to and there is no active development of new features by the current contributors - but this is an open source project, if you would like to contribute, we'll be happy to help/review. Maybe I should make a new release just to refresh the dependencies...
Oh that makes sense. I was worried for a bit there. For security purposes it might be a good idea to make a new release indeed.
is NVFBC still not allowed? I'm still using the modified one from the pull request
To be clear, there is stuff that needs improvement, in particular on Linux (Wayland support) and help on that front is welcome. I have very little time to spend on this project these days - for example the dependency upgrade is also not that simple because Qt changed how screen coordinates are handled.

Unfortunately no, NVIDIA has not changed their licensing :(
