Why not a donation system, with Credit Cards, PayPal, BitCoins, etc? Users are willing to contribute with money.
Won't be difficult in front of the law? Although distribute a software like popcorntime will annoy copyright owners but may not be strictly illegal; earn money with it may be crossing the very tiny blur line of legality...
Here is more food for thoughts a french website about torrents has been put down and a file naming every sponsor arrived in the hand of police. I really think it is a good idea.
in this case we would be taking "profits" with piracy. In many countries, this is a serious crime.
So far, no person or company had income or money received. (I think not)
