Issue/Bug Description:
Quick colorfull glitches while regular usage. They can happen at any time point such as scrolling through a website, switching between application, watching a video, playing a game, etc. However, the glitches occur only when I set the screen resolution at the native resolution of my laptop (2880 x 1800). When I set at 1980 x 1200 there are no glitches. Also, when the image is static there are no glitches.
Steps to reproduce (if you know):
Laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14AHP9):
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS
- GPU: AMD Radeon 780M
- OLED Display, 2880 x 1800, 120 Hz
The glitches seems to be more reliably reproducible by scrolling though a table (see attached slow-mo video), but they can happen in anywhere.
Other Notes:
I recorded screen with OBS, but the glitches are visible only by recording the screen with a camera.
Same laptop, same problems here, I'll try to bring some additional info.
- Identical setup: Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14AHP9 on PopOS 22.04
- The problem appeared before any update, on a fresh install. Still there after updating.
- Appears more frequently when updating big portions of the screen (e.g. bringing a new app on top), but sometimes even on static images.
- Usually gone after a reboot. Usually happening after a suspend, untill the next reboot.
- Didn't notice any difference in battery or AC mode.
- Didn't test if problem goes away switching power plan to performance, I'll update this row.
Maybe unrelated:
- I have glitches on audio too, it get worse after resume from standby
- I've seen almost identical glitches on Windows 10 on Ryzen 2400GE and 2400G
I recordered mine too: Speed 1x - Speed 1/8th
EDIT: Working flawlessly in Windows 11. No glitches on Debian 12.5, but it ocasionally freezes, maybe unrelated. The same glitch happening on Fedora 40, so it seems a more general problem unrelated to just PopOS. I guess the support for this hardware it's just too immature or maybe we just need to disable some power saving features.
