Win Installation - Falcon SQL Client.Ink Unspecified error

bvmcode opened this issue · comments

Tried installing on two PCs from the plot.ly download. I get this error:

C:<path>\Falcon SQL Client.Ink
Unspecified error

Do you get the error during the installation? or after, when you launch Falcon?

My apologies, I should have stated that. It happens during the installation.

I'm double-checking the installer. In the mean-time, please, could you check whether the antivirus in your machine is interfering with the installation?

confirmed that it is not.

I've checked the installer linked by plot.ly and I can confirm it's the same installer we distribute in github.

I've also run the installer and it installs and opens Falcon without a problem in my machine.

I'm not sure how to go about debugging what's causing the problem in your case. It sounds like the installer runs but it fails to launch Falcon.

Could you check if Falcon is installed?

In my machine after installation, Falcon is installed in folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Programs\falcon-sql-client.
If it's installed, what happens when you run Falcon SQL Client.exe?
If Falcon SQL Client.exe works, are you able to pin this executable to Start?

It shows its installed but when I try to open it I get a box that states "blocked by group policy". So it must be because of group policy set by my company.

A colleague of mine also tried to install and got the following:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

It shows its installed but when I try to open it I get a box that states "blocked by group policy". So it must be because of group policy set by my company.

That would explain what you're seeing.

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

This usually happens when one tries to open a file with a filename extension unknown to Windows (it shouldn't happen with .exe files).

ok, I guess we can close this since this issue is specific to my situation.
