Web players displaying as "[Player] Not Open" in Now Playing

I'm pretty sure I did everything right - I have both .exes in the same directory, selected the proper player from the dropdown menu on the desktop app, installed the Chrome extension, clicked on the icon, hit the "use on this page button" and pressed Start when the popup window in the corner came and did the same for the desktop app. But whether it's YouTube or Soundcloud, the desktop app thinks that player is not open and says so in the Now Playing field. Other native, non-web players like iTunes seem to work fine.
