Support for THREDDS links

Perhaps a naive question, but over at leap-stc/cmip6-leap-feedstock#119 I believe I am dealing with a CMIP6 dataset for which I only have a Thredds url and no http link. I am wondering if I can support this out of the box or with workarounds?
Just curious if this is something that might be already done, or is even in scope.
Still curious but def not needed. I think that this is a problem with the ESGF API and pangeo-forge-esgf.
