Uh can we have a provision for sending extra data with messages? For example IRC could use a TLV to identify if a message is a PRIVMSG or NOTICE or TAGMSG, and to carry message tags, etc, to hide those from the underlying protocol, but other protocols would have no use for it because it's very much specific to IRC.
