WindowServer crashes with Ultrawide Monitor on macOS 12.3

wittyofficer opened this issue · comments

Hi,

I upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.3.

I'm not able to go beyond the login screen, the screen blacks out and returns to the login screen whenever I login. I'm using a 38" ultrawide (LG38WN95C) but when I swap my display with a 27 inch 4k display I was able to login but got a pop up saying WindowServer quit enexpectedly.

With 4k display I'm not having any issues but Its not working with ultrawide monitor. Has anyone faced similar issue and found any solution ?

Configuration:

HaC Mini version [e.g: 2.0]: 3.1.5
OSX version [e.g: 10.14.6]: 12.3
NUC model [e.g: NUC8i7HNK]: NUC8i7HVK
Boot SSD model and protocol [e.g: Samsung EVO 860 1TB, SATA]: Western Digital SN500 NVMe 250GB
First DIMM model [e.g: Patriot DDR4-2666 16GB]: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400Mhz 8GB
Second DIMM model (if installed): Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400Mhz 8GB
Display port(s) used [e.g: USB-C, mini DP]: HDMI
Display resolution(s) [e.g: 4K, 5K]: 3840 x 1600 (LG38wn95-c)

AFAIK only solution right now is downgrade to MacOS 12.2.1 - as this seems a problem of MacOS 12.3 with certain Monitors.

All in all - this doesn’t seem like a great upgrade...

Yes macOS 12.3 has lot of display issues.
I found solution mentioned in this reddit thread worked for me.

I deleted all my custom ICC color profiles (*.icc) from /Library/ColorSync/Profiles and now my Ultrawide works !!
