User stats seem incorrect

mvglasow opened this issue · comments

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Look at the user stats.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I’ve been travelling for the last week, covering more than 2000 km (with two devices on different networks while in the car), thus I would expect to see ~3000 cells with my name on it. Also, I picked up some 5000 wifis per day, which would total up to some 35k. Currently, the statistics show less than a day’s yield for me.

What version are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

OK, reason probably identified: the latest web2py update broke our statistic scripts (once again, updates are a huge pain with web2py). So the 7k wifis you saw where the last statistics generated with the old version.

I fixed the script and the new statistics are considerably higher, it now shows 182298 wifis and 4533 cells.
I'll still have to validate the results, but I think this goes in the right direction?

That’s in the range of what I would expect. Thanks for fixing!

@wish7code has the script stopped working again?

Updated earlier today - thanks if you did something

@wish7code there seems to be a problem again—I’ve uploaded a few longish logs over the past week, and user stats for my account did not change at all during the past 8 days.

Something still seems wrong. The country stats show no uploads for November, and my score in the user stats still is the same as in early October. I suspect uploads are stuck somehow…

ACK, problem found: the import scripts ran into timeouts as everybody uploaded at the same time following our SSL related downtime. Currently re-running import scripts, so situation should normalize during the day.

@wish7code can you check the scripts as stats have stalled again

Statistics seem to have stalled since May last year.

Are the website sources and scripts publicly available on a repo ? The community could give a hand fixing the scripts.

Good catch - please check it out now!

Are the website sources and scripts publicly available on a repo ?

No, not yet. We would need a code cleanup before making them public.
Should be feasable, but we would need a hackathon weekend before...

The stats on the website home page seem up to date. However, the wifi stats on the Statistics -> User Stats page still do not got beyond May 2017.

In the stats figures, what do the grey-blue backgrounds mean ? Maybe you could add a legend for it.

@wish7code the stats system needs some TLC again

I too have noticed the maps/stats don't reflect my contributions. There is a path on the map which I recognise as my own, probably when I very first started using it, however no update since then.

Stats seem frozen again. I uploaded a couple of things over the past few days and numbers don't seem to change.
