Static pops and clicks at all sound rates over Composite audio output

Composite audio output results in static pops and clicks at all sound rates. 
I don't believe I was experiencing this issue with the HDMI output.

This is on a 512MB Pi over-clocked to 900mhz with a 256/256 memory split.

I can't reproduce this problem. Is pulse audio removed? What version of 
Raspbian and are you using the default kernel?

Pulseaudio was the problem. I had removed it, but apparently hadn't removed its 
dependencies. After running "sudo apt-get autoremove" it seems like the issue 
has gone away. Thanks for the tip.
