Researcher q: Incomplete flag & timeline for updating cases
jlj2102 opened this issue · comments
I'm a researcher trying to understand case updates for days outside of the range flagged as "incomplete."
For example, on 10/3, 2,026 cases were reported for 9/20, & 9/20 was outside of the flagged range for incomplete; on 10/11, 2,121 cases were reported for 9/20.
Many thanks for your help in understanding the processes that contribute to change and the timeline for updating cases.
Hi, thanks for the question. The incomplete range is a rough range that we largely use for display purposes in visualizations to generally communicate the notion that the most recent data are incomplete.
However, because we report data by date of event, report date (search previous issues for these terms for additional information), it is frequently the case that we receive lagged reports of diagnoses, hospitalizations, or deaths that have happened in the past.
As is unavoidably the case with updating summary data based on a constant incoming flow of information, all data are preliminary and subject to change.
