A Vision for Mobile Integrations using Node.js in Linux Containers

Talk Abstract:
This talk will outline the underlying vision of Red Hat for the use of Node.js to power the server-side of mobile apps (Cloud Apps) and the creation of re-usable services (MBaaS Services), both using Node.js, caching and MongoDB for persistence.
Open access will be granted to all attendees to the current hosted SaaS solution that uses OpenShift 2.2 online to host these apps: https://openshift.feedhenry.com
The aim is to open source the mobile platform itself in the next 12 months, with the community name FeedHenry (c.f. http://feedhenry.org/). OpenShift, as a Red Hat product, is already is already open source, with the community name OpenShift Origin (c.f. http://www.openshift.org/). OpenShift 3, launched in June 2015 at Red Hat Summit, re-architects OpenShift to use kubernetes, Linux Containers and Ansible. OpenShift 2 and OpenShift 3 both support Node.js.

Dr Mícheál Ó Foghlú was CTO of FeedHenry when it was acquired by Red Hat in October 2014. He is now leading the engineering team in Red Hat responsible for integrating FeedHenry into the Red Hat middleware suite of products. The new Red Hat Mobile Application Platform is a next generation, cloud-based mobile application solution that enables the development deployment, integration and management of mobile apps, and integration/API-management for enterprises. Mícheál has over 25 years academic and industry experience with software and web technologies. FeedHenry uses Node.js and Mícheál is an enthusiastic proponent of cross-platform client-side JavaScript and server-side Node.js as an agile way to develop enterprise mobility solutions.
