Fork, Commit, Merge - Medium Issue (YAML/Docker)

Create a Configuration for a Multi-Service Application

Note: You don't have ask permission to start solving the issue or get assigned, since these issues are supposed to be always open for new contributors. The actions-user bot will reset the file back to previous state for the next contributor after your commit is merged. So you can just simply start working with the issue right away!

How to get started

Open the tasks/yaml/medium directory from the root of your project.
Then open up the docker-compose.yml file and once it is properly created according to the YAML syntax and the task in hand, you are done and ready to make a pull request!
Note: You can test your YAML code in a editor like this.

Description:

Your task is to create a docker-compose.yml file that describes a multi-service application. This application should contain:

  • A web server running on port 8080 using the nginx image.
  • A database server running on the default port using the postgres image.

The web server should have access to the database server but not vice versa.

Requirements:

  • Use Docker Compose version 3.
  • Specify service names, image versions, and exposed ports.
  • Set up a custom network and make sure only the web server can communicate with the database.
  • Use environment variables to set the database name, user, and password for the PostgreSQL service.

Example Structure:

version: '3'

services:
  # Define your services here

networks:
  # Define your networks here

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Valid YAML syntax.
  • Correct use of Docker Compose version and features.
  • Correct network setup.
  • The web server should be able to connect to the database, but the database should not have access to the web server.

Check out README.md for more instructions and how to make a pull request.
