[Feature Request] Optional support for Markdown and/or colours

It would be nice if there was support for basic Markdown syntax and preferable syntax highlighting for things like headers, lists, links, images.

I made a quick mockup in Gimp to show you an actual article vs the same article with same basic Markdown syntax and colours on top of that. I guess it would be neat with just Markdown and/or just colours as well. I think it makes things a lot easier to read. At least for someone like me, who struggle to read walls of plain text.

I'm not sure if this will ever be implemented in Newsboat, because where do you draw the line?

Anyways, you can configure your own custom renderer with html-renderer. This might help you a bit. I haven't used or even tried it, but I think it will be used for all articles of all feeds, so if you have a mix of markdown and non-markdown feeds, you might have to use a wrapper script to do some content type detection and dispatch to the appropriate renderer.

I think you misunderstood me. I don't have any Markdown feeds. I want to convert regular HTML articles to Markdown, and then highlight the Markdown syntax, because Markdown have high readability even when it's just plain text without colours. Adding colours would just make it even better.

Oh, now I see! Thanks for clarifying.

I kinda like that idea. In the past I often thought that it would be really cool if code blocks would better stand out. Personally, I do like colors. They probably would have to be integrated somehow into the color schemes.

Not sure, though, how much effort all this would be and how large a can of worms that is, that is going to be opened up.
