Crash when loading big (?) PDF in extract module

On loading up a scanned book (27 MB), of which I want to extract some pages, the app freezes and eventually I get a dialog asking whether I want to wait or force-quit. I am running elementary on a fairly recent Dell XPS 13, so there really should not be a simple performance issue where I did not wait long enough.
If you tell me where to look for them, I am happy to provide looks. Also, this issue appears reproducibly.
