Find a way to avoid using Flyspell mode

This is the first part of my plan to cut typing latency in Emacs. When Flyspell mode is enabled, it eats up too much resources. Is there an alternative way to check misspelled words that would fit my workflow? Well, we could check words not after every key-press but when I exit modalka-mode, for example. I need to think about this carefully. I wish I could continue using Flyspell, but change how it scans words.
