Light table-like effect for background/reference images

mriale opened this issue · comments

Dim the background or reference image to allow for easier tracing.

Ideas from Mike Girdwood:

  • make control b, have multi press, like 3 levels, not just on and off
  • make the foreground image semi-transparent
  • anything that would give the light table effect. if it is dimmer it is just much easier to trace

It's a good idea ! Be warned. As soon as you get animation, people will want to load a video to trace or rotoscope above video material.

I start using i for a personnal project and I approve the suggestion. A toggle off/ on 25% / on 50% transparency / On will be usefull.
BTW, the actual pick color in background is a killer function to define a limited palette forme the reference. I like it !

Here a 70% sim (photoshop : reference layer at 70% transparency on black layer).
If you are drawing with the same colors as reference, it helps to figure out what is to be done.
