problem when I run 'make'

git submodule update --init twt
fatal: Not a git repository (or any parent up to mount point /home/fanzhihang)
Stopping at filesystem boundary (GIT_DISCOVERY_ACROSS_FILESYSTEM not set).
make: *** [twt/ocaml+twt.ml] Error 128
I wonder that whether you have met the same problem and help me to solve it or not? How should I fix the problem?
I have just realized that I should clone the project. I am new giter here and I used to know nothing about it. It is ok now and happy to compile it successfully into binary code.
