continue typing instead of wating for completions

I use corfu with eglot and corfu-auto t. Sometimes, in a large project, on pressing a trigger character (I think?) like ., emacs hangs until it gets the completion or the request times out (usually the latter). How do I just continue typing instead?

Sorry if this is the wrong place, should I ask this in eglot instead?
