No POD found for modules with separate .pod and .pm files

Describe the bug
Any module that uses a separate .pod file for documentation (instead of including it within the .pm file itself) only shows an error message No POD found. Examples include Neo4j::Types or Pod::Simple.
Viewing the POD documentation for affected modules is only possible by opening the "view" of the .pod file directly, which is cumbersome as it requires URL manipulation, there being no direct link to it (that I could find).
To Reproduce
Visit e. g. https://metacpan.org/pod/Pod::Simple.
Expected behavior
The rendered .pod is shown (similar or identical to what is visible when looking at view/lib/Pod/Simple.pod directly).
