Feature Request: Moving Boundary for Auto/Cycle Windtunnel Tests

BrendaEM opened this issue · comments

Could a moving boundary parameter be added to Butterfly?

I think that this one change would be helpful help for most automotive and cycle simulations. Even if I don't make my automotive splash in the world, I should think that it will be beneficial to lower the bar on making fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly automobiles, motorcycles, and scooters.

The excellent plane/point system in Butterfly would be great for car body studies, as any section could be point or vector sampled.

Rotating elements might help additionally, but those might be difficult to implement, although, they would make for some interesting windmill studies.

[I am still working on a decent test case, without a moving ground boundary....]

In the meantime, I am sharing a simple car model for experimentation. It’s a coarsely drawn 1965 Mustang-compatible Ponycar model. The side windows are down, because I thought the buffeting would make a more interesting study. To add a little levity, a brick is positioned as it might have was thrown from the side window.

Thanks you for the consideration and all the effort.
