Getting useful code and features from the original project that inspired KryDos's version?

@krydos 's version was inspired by this project.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be maintained anymore and has some issues with Tray functionality on latest Ubuntu.
After KryDos created his project years ago, the original project had some life in it and was sometimes irregularly updated as well. It is not nearly as active as this one, but it still seems to have some useful contributions. For example this one.
Suggestion: is it possible to check if the other project has some useful features/bugfixes and copy/reimplement them here?
