Cannot get H-assembly to render

misan opened this issue · comments

My Macbook cannot show the H-assembly.scad file. After several minutes eating 100% of cpu and no sign of progress all I could see in the output pane was:

There is a "how" in the README that should be "who"

Please be patient. It is not ready yet. And there are more spelling mistakes, I know

Coding is one part, testing another.
If I print (after work and next to family life) some parts, it takes hours. Than I realize, it is OK but could have some improvements, it takes more or less another evening.

We use Windows 7 for rendering and the OpenSCAD developer release. We have problems with the normal release too.

Maybe today, latest tomorrow, you will find a "H-assembled.stl" on github

I started printing the parts again (I think its version 5 or 6 now, next to the printrbot parts, which did not fit), to check if everything fits like expected.

If the first "golvend/tornado" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7519) is printed we feel we are ready.
Than we publish the printer on Thinginverse

You are a beta tester ;-). The stuff is still under improvement

Dear Achim,

I am not trying to push you. I am interested on your development and trying to help.

I understand it is a work in progress and I am just testing your output and providing my feedback. But I do not want to be a burden.

I printed and assembled a Printrbot but I was dissappointed with the result.

I liked the Wallace but I was not sure nema14 was a good idea. Your project seems just right.

Keep on the good work.

It is a very complex file with all parts in it. At my PC it also takes quite a while to render and the zoom and rotate also lag extremely. But from your log I think you have an older version, I am not sure but from your log it seems so. I will put up some picture with the next push or as jsturm said there will be a build stl if everything works out. You also could try this:
To view this H-assembly.scad I recommend to use the actual developer release of OpenScad e.g. http://www.onewheelweb.com/static/openscad/OpenSCAD-2012.02.19-Installer.exe and to set the value for "Turn off render at ... elements" [edit->Preferences] to a higher value (I use 200000).

I fixed the misspelling thanks for that, but I think there are quite a lot of them all over the project ;)

You are no burden, so please keep up telling us such things and don't hesitate if there is anything wrong or not working in with the design.

Here you will find the MAC OS X version of the OpenSCAD Development Snapshots: http://www.openscad.org/ resp. http://www.kintel.net/public/OpenSCAD-2012.02.19.dmg

Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try and I will report back.

Please use the new files, lots of small changes

After 15 hours waiting for OpenSCAD to render assemby.scad I gave up. I'm going to download an updated copy of the files. (I am using the version of OpenSCAD you suggested. My computer has only 4GB). I've seen the images you've posted on reprap forum though.

I added a stl file of the assembly at the devel branch in the stl folder.
The Compile/Render of the assembly.scad files in the devel and standard branch should also be easier now.
