Interesting post. Another unfortunate part of this is that it's difficult to even participate in these discussions if you're not part of one of these disadvantaged groups out of fear of being labeled sexist/racist/homophobic/etc if you say the wrong thing or get misunderstood. It's happened to me before and it means that a lot of non-disadvantaged people probably support diversity in theory but know that (a) their own lives will not be made worse if they stay out of the discussion completely, (b) if they participate there is a small chance their life will become noticeably worse. Even the most altruistic person is gonna have a hard time with this reality.
Also, Sheryl Sandberg, and yeah, this typo is what got me to not only leave a comment but also add utteranc.es to my GH, whatever that says about me.
