pandoc version too old

pandoc 1.12.4.2 as contained in the latest Raspbian version fails to properly handle links in notebooks leading to 500 : Internal Server Error The error was: nbconvert failed: list index out of range during pdf conversion.
If you know a way to build the latest version of pandoc from source, please drop me a line.
Raspbian Stretch now comes with pandoc 1.17.2! Did not run into any problems with this version.
