Cancel button - program close

I tried to download this video, which got set to Members Only halfway through me watching it, and it had an endless spinner on the Cancel button. When I clicked Cancel, it closed/crashed the program.
I cannot assume a default preventive behavior for every situation. I need to have a method that can reproduce the problem consistently, so that I can identify and resolve it.
