`ECONNREFUSED` in console

I am trying to do Magit Status, and nothing happens. Looking in the developer console I see this:
log.ts:439 ERR connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:17373: Error: connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:17373
at TCPConnectWrap.afterConnect [as oncomplete] (node:net:1555:16)
I am trying this on a remote ssh host, which I understand that should be supported.
None of the commands work. Does anybody have any idea?
