Congratulations on this awesome 32X development of Golden Axe! I look forward to the final version!

I presume you're going to have both a Arcade Mode and a Genesis mode, to account for the additional content changes the home version had; such as the Castle Final Level with Death Bringer and the difference in credits.

Do you also plan to go the extra mile to add optional SegaCD support for using the optional Sega Classics Arcade Collection discs as a CD OST? Possibly also throw in a new exclusive 32X 3-Player mode and additional difficulties like a Mania/Ultimate?

Sorry to say but the project is on hold so long as it doesn't work on real hardware but maybe even then I'm not sure if I will continue to work on it. But it's open source so anyone can work on it :)

As I couldn't get it to run on real hardware I sort of released it as is (incomplete). My original plans for a first release were:

  • More animation frames (from the arcade)
  • Incorporate one of the existing color patches (with approval from those authors ofc)
  • Add a hard mode with alternate enemy placements and stats

It should support the existing MD+ patch out of the box I think if it were to run on real hardware (no emulator supports it atm in combination with 32X as far as I know). Probably need to apply the MD+ patch first though.

Congratulations on finally getting this game running on real hardware. Since you finally got this game working on real hardware. Idk if there's anymore plans for this hack, but I'd figure if I can try throwing in a suggestion to make this hack more complete.

By any possibility you can utilize the PWM for SFX and PCM voices from the arcade version.

what are the issues in preventing it from running on the 32X?

To be honest I like working on proof of concepts the most and get bored quickly after that is achieved. The 32X conversion proof of concept is finished IMO now that it boots on real hardware...

As long as there is some technical challenge and I have the time for it I might do something in the future but then again maybe not. The main requirement is that it must be fun to do :).

But as said the project is open source so anyone can work on it.

I am closing this issue. For specific bug reports/questions/feature requests etc it is best to open a new issue.
