Dimmed text is always of the color of plain text of the color scheme

No matter which color theme I use the hidden text remains the normal color (plain text color, no code highlighting, no dimming). I tried different solutions and settings but with no result.w Any idea what it could be?
(No error messages are displayed, it's just the hiding does not work at all)
let g:limelight_conceal_ctermfg
let g:limelight_conceal_guifg
let g:limelight_default_coefficient
settings seem to have no effect
It was a problem with a limelight.vim file left over from a previous installation
