A package with that package id, without contact details or source code offers, has been brought to my attention today. It is offered on Aptoide, apkpure, and apk.support, amongst other sites.
I have not yet investigated whether the app is dangerous or not. In any case, this would just be a point in time.
I have been unable to find any contact details for the developer of this fork, nor have I seen any modified source code. The modified app does preserve all copyright notices and license information, however there seems to be no way to get to any modified source code as required by the GPL.
Assuming this is an honest mistake, I ask the authors to come forward and address this. Otherwise I will have to issue DMCA notices to the distributors.
If anyone else has insights into this topic, please let me know.
