DNS66 is blocking everything, even out of the box

Hello,
I just installed DNS66 from F-Droid. Version is v0.5.8
When I am activating DNS66 no traffic is going through anymore, even the DNS66 update process hangs.
Do you have an idea what is the matter?
My Android version is 8.0.0

Can you give more information as to what host files are you using? Did you update the hosts before or not? Also for the above error it'd be better if you'd change your phones language to English for a while and screenshot it again.
Well German is fine for me as it's my native language, but I'm not sure what the issue is here.
Did you turn on custom DNS servers, and can't reach them?
Probably best to send a logcat from the menu (sends it in your email app) and add a link to this bug so I can associate it.
Are you sure you did not flag "Allow connections only through this permanent VPN"? Sorry for the poor English but my Android is localized too.
Anyway, at least in Pie, there is an option to require the system to route all the traffic via the VPN: it is chosen in VPN system settings (not from the app) and is disabled by default.
The behaviour you describe is exactly what happens when you tick that option
